Meet Mr. Wakiya, an artisan from Kyoto, Japan!!
Shoji is a traditional Japanese paper doors that you can see in the Japanese House exhibit in Boston Children’s Museum. Shoji doors use very thin papers. Mr. Wakiya from Kyoto, Japan is a well respected master artisan of Japanese paper art and craft work like these doors.
On Friday, July 16, 7:00-8:00pm, and Saturday, July 18, Mr. Wakiya will present Special Demonstrations of “Repairing Japanese Shoji paper doors” in the Museum. While the shoji doors in the Japanese House are repaired, there will be fun activities through which you can learn more about shoji doors and Japanese culture. Boston Children’s Museum is thrilled to welcome Mr. Wakiya to the Museum, as it is not often you have a chance to meet an artisan from Kyoto, the art and craft center of Japan. Do not miss this rare opportunity to see a traditional Japanese artisan at work!
