WHERE? WHO?
Where do we keep our collection? Who takes care of it?

The Museum has so many objects in our collection that we cannot exhibit them all at the same time. We keep most of our objects in special storage rooms filled with shelves that have many levels and drawers.

You can see some of our stored collections on the 3rd floor of the Museum, in our in our Japanese Study Storage area, just across the way from our Japanese House (Kyo-no-machiya). This study-storage area allows us to protect the objects in our collection while still providing our visitors with access to artifacts in storage.

People who work in museums and who look after collections objects are sometimes called curators, registrars or collections managers. Our museum staff looks after our collection, putting information on the collections database and making sure that objects are handled carefully. The collections manager looks after new objects added to the collection, and helps with putting artifacts on display in exhibit cases.
