Children of Hangzhou DVD-ROM

Learn about the daily life of young people in China today. In the new bi-lingual DVD-ROM, Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China, you can explore contemporary Chinese life and culture through video diaries of youth in Hangzhou as they go to school, learn traditional opera, visit the countryside, and celebrate grandmother’s birthday. Through the experiences with four individuals, you will learn about tradition and change in China.

The DVD ROM, accessible via computer, offers activities for learning more about China. Designed to be used in the classroom or in the home, the video and activities are available in English and Mandarin. Materials include:

• Interactive maps of Hangzhou, China and the world
• Cultural activities such as learning a traditional craft, cooking an authentic dish, playing an ancient game, and learning a favorite folk tale
• Discussion questions for each teen
• Facilitator’s guides with answer keys and background information
• Glossaries in traditional and simplified Chinese characters
