The Wampanoag

People of the First Light

Boston Children's Museum and Wampanoag Indian Advisors jointly offer a website to help educators present the history of Wampanoag people with accuracy and respect. We recognize that an appropriate understanding of Wampanoag culture, history and heritage must come from the voices of Wampanoag people. For too long, the history of Native Americans has been either misrepresented or excluded from textbooks, storybooks and mainstream American history. The resources on this site include in-depth dialogue about critical issues in Wampanoag history, activities, suggested readings and examples from the Museum's collections.
